Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center in Rüsselsheim, Germany is a young, dynamic company with its roots in South Korea. The Asian vibe can be felt throughout the whole company, making it a one-of-a-kind place to work.
In order to build on the success story in Korea, Hyundai Motor Company started to open R&D Centers for all main markets worldwide. The purpose of Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center is to make sure that every Hyundai, KIA and Genesis which comes to Europe meets the demanding standards of the European customer and is adapted to the needs of that specific market.
To ensure this, we take on a wide range of research and development tasks at HMETC with a motivated team from many countries and cultures.. These tasks cover the areas of Powertrain, Vehicle Development, Planning & Project Management, Electronic Systems, Commercial Vehicles, Design and a wide range of tasks in Corporate Functions for all three of the Group’s strong brands.

HMETC is part of the Hyundai Motor Group founded by Chung Ju-yung, who opened a car service garage in 1940, where car repairs were done five times faster compared to the local competitors. At the heart of our work at HMETC are, of course, engineering achievements in research. So we don’t just take care of efficient drives, easy-to-use charging solutions or optimal aerodynamics – we also develop innovative surfaces or comfortable chassis. And we test our ideas on real prototypes.
Sometimes even on the Nürburgring. That’s how we ensure precisely the performance for which our three strong brands stand for.
Dr. Jae Woon Lee
Our Managing Director Dr. Jae Woon Lee, leads, coaches and guides HMETC’s management and employees to further expand the competencies, synergies and strengths of the Research and Development Center. Before joining HMETC, Dr. Lee held several positions. Starting as an engineer, he was most recently group lead for the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) team in Korea with a focus on technical engineering and operational tasks. Now his roles and responsibilities have extended in a strategical direction.
